Frank Accavitti - 7th Grade Language Arts

Who am I?
While my photo attempts to cast me as the thoughtful one, I was truly dumbfounded when PLP entered my life and my career just under a year ago. As a Language Arts teacher, I considered myself ahead of the game when I clicked create on a blog post or managed to register "LanguageArts7" on Twitter. It was no time at all before I realized I wasn't ahead of the shift at all, and needed to work just as hard as my colleagues to find purposeful uses for new tools and technologies, as well as reconsider the rules for managing and defining a classroom that I had just spent five years learning, and a haphazard first year implementing. Without PLP, I would not have the 21st Century-driven success that my second year of teaching has brought, and that is why I am working so passionately with my teammates to bring the ideas and methods of our cohort to the whole staff. While our original presentation may not have yielded the greatest of starts, we definitely have clay to work with and a masterpiece to create. Many who began like I did, thinking followers were the goal, will begin to see the benefits of a network of learners that is informative, interactive, and international. As for the shift? It's coming, and they'll either hear the words or be left behind.
